Numbeo's September 2026 average for a fitness club membership in Lucknow is about ₹1,519 a month, from 534 entries, with most answers between ₹1,000 and ₹2,500. The chains show how far the city sits below NCR: Gold's Gym in Hazratganj publishes ₹18,000 a year plus ₹1,000 enrolment and 5% GST, ₹19,950 in all — for the same brand, Sector 43 in Gurugram lists ₹30,000 a year and Sector 51 in Noida ₹49,678.

Pay-as-you-go passes compete for the same wallet. Cult's Gomti Nagar gym charges ₹7,344 for one month and ₹19,450 for twelve, and FITPASS, which lets members train across partner gyms, lists monthly passes at ₹1,417 and ₹1,667 in Hazratganj. A local gym that wants members to commit for a year has to make the annual price and the renewal easy to say yes to.

Gym neighbourhoods

Sulekha's Lucknow directory is led by Gomti Nagar, Indira Nagar, Aliganj and Hazratganj, followed by Rajajipuram, Mahanagar, Ashiyana and Alambagh. Women-only training is a visible format: FITPASS lists women-only gym sessions in the city, and Sulekha carries 35 listings under gyms for women. CrossFit, MMA, yoga and Zumba all appear on FITPASS's Lucknow list too.

Separate women's batches, or a CrossFit block at 7 a.m., are easier to run with a real timetable: class scheduling sets capacity per batch, and members book or cancel from the member app instead of messaging the trainer.

Licences: Nagar Nigam and the UP shops act

In Uttar Pradesh a trade licence is issued by the urban local body — in Lucknow, the Nagar Nigam — and the application runs through Nivesh Mitra, the state's single-window portal, where Nagar Nigam officers verify and approve it. The portal's process note doesn't list a gym-specific trade category, so confirm the category and fee with the Nagar Nigam when you apply.

The UP shops and establishments law was amended in 2025 and has been in force since 19 November 2025: establishments with fewer than 20 employees are exempt, and those with 20 or more register online within six months.

One UP registration, many branches
